Folk: Bent, John, Svend Aage, David, Rose, Jimmy, Luke, Michael.

The moon was shining brightly again when I woke up, and looked mysterious in the calm before the dawn, which again was beautiful this morning!

Opening the nets in the lighthouse garden in the twilight. Photo: Luke Nelson

It was a little windy when I opened the nets this morning, and I could see on the forecast it would get windier later in the morning, but I thought I could get a few hours in with the nets open before that. However it was shockingly slow, with only one bird caught, a Common Redstart (Rødstjert), before I closed the nets at 9 due to the wind and rain showing on the radar, which ended up not appearing. I think because the nets were blowing a bit in the rain they were very visible to the birds, combined with their not being many migrants around. At one point I saw three Stonechat (Sortstrubet Bynkefugl) in the station garden, and watched as they flew right over the nets...

I didn't sleep well and have been feeling a little under the weather today, so actually a slow day was quite welcome as it meant I could get some rest. I made chana masala (chickpea curry) but unfortunately due to being congested neither me or Michael could taste it properly. Rose assured us it tasted good though!

Tomorrow it looks like it will be too windy to open the nets but I will wake up and see what the forecast says before making a final decision. Hopefully I'll get a good nights sleep tonight.
