Another day, another Jay!
We were faced with another day of rain and wind, meaning we varied which nets we had open depending on the conditions. We weren’t catching much, but our second bird of the day was another Jay! It almost managed to get out the net but I got hold of it in time, then it in turn got me, quite painfully!

Later in the morning we were checking the nets regularly due to rain showers, and in the lighthouse garden I flushed a big black bird into the net. As I got to the net I could see it was a Ring Ouzel, a bird I had wanted to catch whilst I was here, so I was very pleased. It’s a beautiful bird up close, with lovely markings on it’s feathers. And much better behaved than the Jay! Definitely the star bird of the day for me.

This afternoon we heard reports of a Pallas’s Leaf Warbler at Skallingen, and Rose drove Michael, Daniel and I down to try and see it. Rose, Daniel and I have never seen one, and it’s the species Rose most wants to see this week. There were many birders there, but unfortunately no sighting for us. It was raining so probably the bird was staying to ground. Hopefully we’ll catch up with it later in the week, maybe in the nets…?
