Rosy Starling!

A large influx of Rosy Starlings (Rosenstær, Pastor roseus) currently spreading from south east Europe suddenly made its mark on Blåvand this morning when one was discovered whilst conducting a net round. The bird appeared in the car park outside the station and imediately after being found flew to an exposed perch and began singing! Fortunately, all those at the observatory at the time had the oportunity to connect with this stunning adult male. However, it was rather restless and flighty and not long after all had seen it, it flew low north and disappeared behind the lighthouse garden after which it was not seen again.

Now that June has roled around the standardised observations which have taken place almost every day this spring have come to an end. As a result only opportunistic sightings made on an ad hoc basis will be published on DOFbasen until the autumn seasonal counts begin.
