Grå dag med SØ-vind

fredag 18. oktober 2019

Lisa Flam:

It was a long fun day with a lot of visitors and birds all around.

Yesterday looking at the weather forecast it didn’t seem too promising and so I was happy to wake up for a pretty dry day!
I enjoyed the company of Simon that joined me today, he had the patience and desire to teach me new things that I am always appreciative of. It’s always a pleasure to work with talented ringers.

We had a nice variety of birds but nothing too special; the interesting thing for us today was having 20 goldcrests (fuglekonger), the ones caught in the Lighthouse Garden were 90% female, the ones caught in the Station Garden were 90% male.
Also found a difference between species with the fat score- most Robins (rødhalse) seemed to have a lot of fat, as opposed to the Bramblings (kvækerfinker) that had no fat at all.

The last few days I feel the need to be out more, go bird watching as well as ringing. The weather is changing and it is getting more windy and rainy, so I feel I should be taking advantage of the good days out here.

Peter and his first ringed Starling!

Later on Simon and Gunnar prepared an amazing dinner for us before going out on another adventure.

Amazing dinner with amazing people. It is definitely a paparazzi photo, as you can see. Photo: Lisa Flam

Tommorow isn't looking like a good ringing day. I hope to wake up and be wrong.
