Flot stille dag med en lille overraskelse

torsdag 31. oktober 2019
Kraftig sydøstenvind i morgen.

Lisa Flam:

Finally I got my way for a nice warm day. It was 5 degrees when we opened the nets! It was a pretty quiet day with some nice surprises!

I had a ‘wish list’ of birds I really wanted to see here in Denmark, and even more, wanted to ring. One of them was Long-tailed Tit (halemejse), that before coming here seemed like a reasonable wish, but after searching the database I realized it would be a long-shot to have even one in the nets. Last time they were ringed here was 2016.

Today was a very quiet day, seemed like pretty much no birds were around, after ringing the birds from the first round, Bent calls me to come FAST. I was sure something was wrong, but then he pointed at the nets and said- those birds are for you. I walk toward them and see six white round long-tailed birds in the net!! For me this moment was like a dream come true.

Later on today Michael and I finally walked up to the top of the Lighthouse!! The view today was inspiring, we couldn’t resist.

In the afternoon I joined David and Troels birdwatching, it was again pretty quiet with mostly common birds and not many. It was nice anyway being with them outside on a day like this.

When we got back Michael and I cooked dinner for everyone, we talked about our day and shared our highlight moments. The station is still full of wonderful people and it's nice to spend some time all together in the end of the day.

Thank you, Blåvand, once again, for this magical experience.

I had some time today to go out just for 15 minutes to join the observing point, there weren't many birds, but the landscape was unbelievably beautiful, I couldn't ignore it and took many photos of all around. Here is just one. Photo: Lisa Flam
